What a reservation link delivers
A visible Reserve button can open an existing booking platform, a telephone call or the restaurant’s preferred contact channel. The website helps guests reach the right action; the receiving service or team handles the booking.
Check the destination with the owner. A phone call or WhatsApp message is a booking request until the restaurant confirms it. Do not show “booking confirmed” simply because someone clicked a link.
When an embed makes sense
Some reservation providers offer an approved widget. It can keep more of the booking journey on the website, but it also introduces the provider’s scripts, availability and privacy requirements. Confirm that the restaurant’s plan supports the integration.
Keep a usable fallback link if the widget fails. Check keyboard navigation and mobile loading before relying on it. The provider’s ongoing fees remain separate from the website design fee.
What custom booking adds to the scope
A custom system needs agreed rules for party size, table capacity, seating times, cancellations and closed dates. It also needs a way for staff to manage changes and avoid conflicting reservations.
Confirmations, deposits, refunds, personal information, email delivery and service monitoring introduce further responsibilities. A visually simple form can hide a substantial operating system.
- Availability and capacity rules.
- Staff access and changes to existing reservations.
- Confirmation, cancellation and no-show policies.
- Payments, refunds and notification delivery where required.
- Data retention, security and ongoing support.
Decide using a specific constraint
Write down what the current booking channel cannot do. Is it a clear limitation in capacity, languages, event bookings or staff workflow? Ask the provider whether its existing features can address it before commissioning a replacement.
If the problem is that guests cannot find the booking link, start with navigation and placement. If the problem is operational, agree measurable requirements and a separate quote.
A launch check for any booking route
Try the full guest journey on a phone: find the action, select the intended venue, make a test request where permitted and verify what the restaurant receives. Follow the cancellation path too.
Document which service confirms the booking and which team handles guest questions. A button should accurately describe the next action: Reserve online, Call to reserve or Request a table.
Scope at Table & Host
The €999 standard website package includes existing reservation and contact links. Custom reservation management, ordering software, complex integrations and payment workflows are separately scoped. Custom work starts from €99 and is quoted before work begins; this is not a promise that a booking system costs €99.
